Prism pleased to sponsor Bill Bryson dinner, tonight, in aid of children’s cancer research: good luck to all!

As my friends will know I am always willing to consider supporting good causes and as several friends or their children have had narrow escapes with various leukaemia related cancers I am delighted to lend Prism’s support to a great cause, in this case North of England Children’s Cancer Research (NECCR)

As one of the partners in the Future Fund for Children with Cancer, along with Newcastle University and The Great North Children’s Hospital, a key fundraising focus for the NECCR over the next eighteen months is the development of a specialist children’s cancer research facility at Newcastle University. Although research has progressed significantly over the past 30 years, 1600 children are still diagnosed with cancer in the UK each year, and the side effects of current treatments can be chronic and severe as my friends found out. This new centre will enable Newcastle University’s world-leading team to continue its excellent work in this area and support the shared goal to develop more effective and less harmful treatments for childhood cancer.

This year they’re launching a new fundraising initiative called Children’s Cancer Week. The first event is a dinner and will feature an audience with Bill Bryson and takes place the evening of Friday, September 19 in Newcastle. They will run an auction at the event and the premium prize is a First Class trip to London to stay at the Firmdale Hotel and eat at Mark Hix’s restaurant with Prism’s theatre tokens worth £150. Funds raised will help toward finding a cure for childhood cancer to help children with cancer everywhere.

Best wishes to all for the event.
