Lord Adonis, transport secretary in the last Labour cabinet and current shadow infrastructure minister, commenced this Management Consultancies Association Boardroom Breakfast with interesting comparisons to the political situation in the 1970s including a new 4th party and summarised a “very unusual and complicated situation”. He made the point that a key difference between then and now was that the Labour Party was not divided. He outlined the distinct differences between the parties but acknowledged that there were also areas where, for all the rhetoric, the likely outcomes over the coming years might be similar. He did have an interesting perspective on a recent key policy announcement from his party but sadly under Chatham House rules my lips are sealed!
