Consultants and tech geeks love to come up with daft phrases to confuse the rest of us. It makes them feel “in the know” and allows them to sell us stuff as the “next big thing”. The phrase “internet of things” is a great example and this short video clip does a decent job of explaining it. It is from IBM: not a bad thing but clearly it is an uncritical briefing. It raises many questions about data and security but surely the most profound is: from the example they gave, with all the technology available, why the only dashboard warning available was “check engine”! Helpful: not.
