Management Consultancies Association: Government Procurement in the Age of Austerity

Prism Executive Recruitment was delighted to sponsor the Management Consultancy Association (MCA) Boardroom Breakfast on Thursday 25th September 2014.

A full house of senior management consultants was awaiting Bill Crothers, Chief Commercial Officer at the Crown Commercial Service, a man responsible for £40 billion of central government expenditure.

Crothers became Chairman of the Crown Commercial Service (CCS) when it was established in early 2014 and he is now the Government’s Chief Commercial Officer. Amongst other things, he is responsible for central government’s relations with its largest suppliers. Previously he was Commercial Director at the Home Office and a senior executive at Accenture.

Many procurement models have been tried in central government over recent years. Crothers took on this role in an era of unprecedentedly tight spending constraints, likely to be made even tougher in the next Parliament as the battle to reduce the deficit intensifies. Crothers addressed the audience on the CCS’s current plans and objectives, including changing approaches to central government’s use of consulting services.

Alan Leaman, CEO of the MCA wrapped up by thanking Bill warmly and drawing Bill’s attention to the considerable expertise available from the MCA and its members.
