Prism were delighted, as a Management Consultancies Association strategic partner, to sponsor another of the highly acclaimed “Breakfast Briefing” series with Lord David Sainsbury
David Sainsbury has enjoyed a remarkable career in business and government. He worked for the eponymous supermarket for 32 years, including periods as Finance Director and Chairman. He was then one of the longest serving ministers in the Blair government, working as Minister of Science and Innovation from 1998 until 2006. He is a major donor to charities and other good causes, including the Institute for Government. He was elected Chancellor of Cambridge University in 2011.
David’s book Progressive Capitalism : How to achieve economic growth, liberty and social justice was published in 2013 to great acclaim. Andrew Adonis described it as ‘a powerful and cogent critique’ and a ‘must read’ for anyone interested in industrial policy. Sainsbury’s analysis is likely to be very influential as Labour and Ed Miliband prepare for the 2015 election.
Following an introduction from Alan Leaman, CEO of the MCA, there followed a thought provoking and of course cogently argued talk to launch his new book “Progressive Capitalism”
There followed a lively question and answer session with enlightening insights into his time in Government: the quote of the day was surely “don’t assume a conspiracy: look for stupidity”
