Sue Owen is Permanent Secretary at the Department of Culture, Media and Sport. At this MCA Boardroom Breakfast she gave a fascinating insight into the broad range of her Department’s responsibilities, from telecoms and media regulation, the broadband roll-out, the creative industries and the role of sport in the economy, as well as promoting equality and diversity in society. Also includes implementation of Gay Marriage legislation, ensuring a long-lasting legacy from the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and organising a fitting series of events to mark the First World War centenary.
If that weren’t enough the remit also covers the BBC and 44 other NGOs. Oh and the Royal Family, Museums, English Heritage…. Sue made the point that while the direct budget made it one of the smallest Government departments the nature of the remit and the impact on other departments meant the effect on citizen’s lives is disproportionately large. This, the last of the 2014 series of Boardroom Breakfasts sponsored by Prism Executive Recruitment, maintained the excellent standard.
